Summer in City 17

More Machinima excellence from Zachariah Scott of Lit Fuse Films. This gorgeous music video clip set in the world of Half Life II is a wistful, poetic vision of the life under military occupation where privacy and hope are things long forgotten.

A young woman in shabby nondescript clothes is looking fearfully past a chain link fence. Sinister Civil Protection officers leer at her from death mask-like helmets. On her way to home, a hovering camera looms from behind, watching her every movements. Summertime indeed… This is life in City 17.

The musical score is Summersong by The Decemberists, from their album The Crane Wife. It’s a charmingly catchy tune that matches the mood of the visuals very well, making this a professional, well integrated, high quality music video.

What stuck to my mind the most are the whale-like movements of a flock of Combine troop transports as they swoop across the sky and the old-fashioned radio playing on a rowboat next to an empty lawn chair. Pure visual poetry.
